MAIN STAGE PERFORMERS

Dylan Rhymes - London, UK

Electro / Tech Funk / Breaks

Dance music has been the biggest part of Rhymes’ (otherwise known as Marvin Beaver – and yes, he’s heard all of the jokes) life from a young age. Inspired by early hip hop and electro a la Kraftwerk and Doug E. Fresh, Marvin purchased his first set of decks at 15 and caught the bug in a bad way.

While working for British Airways after leaving school, a chance meeting with a nu-beat-writing co-worker who was selling his equipment to go travelling led to Marvin’s first “studio”. Supplemented with the now legendary Roland TR808 and TR909 drum machines Beaver started, as most people did in dance music in the late eighties, by putting out a few acid house white labels. Before long the talent was noticed by owners of the seminal Wax Factory imprint, Ron Wells and Chris Simmons, who began to release more of his material. Dave Pearce’s Reachin Records also bought into the young producers skills, fuelling the fire and enabling Beaver to set up a commercial studio with his mate Justin Drake in the early 1990s.

Rhythm Design Studios in Uxbridge became the birthplace of Outsiders, Drake and Beaver’s much-lauded project for Junior Boy’s Own Chicago influenced Jus Trax label. Friend, DJ and London mainstay Clive Henry then joined the team and the trio became Peace Division, a project that gained props from every corner of dance music without exception.

Leaving Peace Division to focus on his own material, Beaver invented the Dylan Rhymes moniker (a reference to Bob Dylan) and set about working on a breakbeat track for Junior Boys Own. The result was 1996s “Naked & Ashamed” which, due to a Smirnoff ad campaign, became one the label’s biggest tracks (no mean feat considering JBO’s pedigree). Since then he has cemented his reputation as one of the leaders of the breakbeat and tech house scenes through his output through Kingsize Records, Meat Katie’s Whole9Yards and Lot49 labels and his own Blue Black imprint.

Besides original work, Beaver has also remixed the likes of Deep Dish, Infusion, Dave Gahan, Overseer, Unkle and Puretone while he has collaborated with Meat Katie, Christian J, Force Mass Motion (as Silencer) and Anthony J Gorry (on his 2004 album, Dead Famous).

ESP aka Woody McBride [LIVE] -

Minneapolis, MN

Tribal Techno / Acid House

Woody McBride of Minnesota, aka "DJ ESP" has been an advocate, enthusiast and organizer of arts & music activities since his hungry early-80's junior high school years in an artistically under-rated Bismarck, north Dakota where he enjoyed his associations with the cinema 100 film group, the north Dakota peace coalition, the Bismarck state studio arts department, the Bismarck state college newspaper and his first introduction to the power of chemical-free straight-edge artistry and musicianship.

This experience and future dedication lead him to be the 2000 recipient of the respected "Minnesota music award" for "Best Electronica Artist" standing alongside other winners such as prince, sounds of blackness, and kid Johnny Lang....his album "strangely arranged" (featuring dozens of twin cities and noted international artists was voted as one of the decades "ten best" by the award winning weekly Minneapolis "city pages" in 2000.

After moving to Minneapolis in 1988, the volume got turned up taking his fine arts and writing background to a new level, one of performance art, "chemical-free living" advocacy in the art and music community, journalism, graphic design, tribal and Celtic style dance, community service, coaching basketball and DJing spiritually oriented electronic dance music.

Having mentored with twin cities omni-genre music pioneer DJ Kevin Cole (now creative director for amazon.com) ESP branched out to become one of the world's premier electronic music DJ's, producers and promoters, now overseeing the family of communiqué’s ten respected electronic music (techno, house, funk, ambient) record labels and globetrotting with his ever changing collective of artists performing today's most avant-guard music.

Since 1991, ESP has composed hundreds of classic electronic music tracks on his label communiqué such as "Basketball Heroes, Comedy Tragedy, Psick And Tired, Soundburnt And Electris" As Well As "Hidden" (Labworks), "Rattlesnake" (Magnetic North) "The Earthworm Sings" (Ex), "Slo Mo" (Definitive) and many other great records and remixes on Bush, TLC, Missile, Analog, Foodchain, Transatlanticexpress, Blue Line, 611, Swell, Ovum, Synewave And Urbanground.

From the event promotion perspective, for years he has organized some of America’s most well-respected events such as "turned on, mental, apocalypse wow!, further, electric disco, depth probe, closer, i like to get down, sugar" & the memorable "stairway to headphones. "turned on 2" held in November 2000 proved to be the largest and most exciting event in Midwest America history with over 7000 people in attendance and was the first truly outspoken "drug free rave event" in us history"! The event featured q-bert, Sandra Collins, Henrik B, Derrick Carter, Frankie Bones, Christopher Lawrence and dozens more...

His events have featured amazing arena sized sound systems stacked in his trademark "wall of bass" form sometimes measuring 20 feet high and 150 feet long, pushing as much as 1,000,000 watts of good clean fun. He's set the American live-sonic standards for a new era of a brand new genre of music.

Treavor Moontribe - Los Angeles, CA

Psychedelic Techno / Psytrance

Treavor Walton a/k/a "Treavor Moontribe" is a composer, producer, DJ, A&R associate for a digital online label, and founding member of Moontribe. He's also a member of the famed band Amani vs. Teapot now known as Desert Dwellers. Treavor was born in L.A. and began his musical career performing guitar in local bands as a teenager. By the end of high school in 1993, he discovered an underground rave scene that quickly fueled his musical talents in another creative direction: producing electronic music and experimenting with different musical tools beyond the guitar. Being so inspired during that same year, a then very young and fresh Treavor co-founded Moontribe. Its mission was to create an alternative dance space for the then struggling L.A. underground DJ community.

Today, Moontribe has become a leading name in the industry as one of LA's most recognized tribal dance-music-promotion teams, cultivating the presence of many of today's top DJs in the global underground scene with continued success of over 14 years. In the course of a fourteen year history, Moontribe and its members have been traveling the world spinning a unique sound of desert-inspired dance music with an intelligently crafted tribal blend of beats. As Moontribe grew in stature, experience, and maturity, Treavor did as well. After two years following the development of Moontribe, he became one of their resident DJs, performing at its Full Moon Gatherings, and continues to be a strong presence for Moontribe.

This year marks his twelfth year as a Moontribe artist, having built a reputation uniquely his own traveling all over North America and beyond participating in events such as The Shambhala Festival in Canada, Free Form Productions in Hamburg, Germany, and in Morocco for New Years 2001. His versatility and intelligence of music sets him apart from his fellow artists. Treavor is known for being extremely diverse and has always refused to be pigeon holed into one specific genre. This diversity allows him to stay fresh with his sound as well as program effectively for any time at any party.

Treavor has in the past been most notably recognized as performing with music partner Amani Friend under the name "Amani vs. Teapot" and now Desert Dwellers. The duo hand-crafted numerous EPs which were released on labels Ritual Sounds, System Recordings and Chug Records, as well as licensing music and remixing for Bedrock Records and Sunkissed Records. The project became world famous for its unique sound of Tribal Progressive House, and quickly earned the recognition of some of the world's best DJs, such as John Digweed, Chris Fortier, and John OO Flemming. As a result of the immense passion and creation of Amani vs. Teapot, the birth of "Desert Dwellers" has evolved in 2005.

Desert Dwellers is a multi genre project introducing many collaborators like Rara Avis, Jonathan Grossman and Jeff Steinmetz aka DJ Kepi. To date Desert Dwellers has released two full length Chill Out albums on White Swan Records and a swathe of dance remixes for the likes of Deep Forest (Existence Records), Omnis Recordings, Pacific Front Recordings and Ritual Sounds. Multiple new albums are in the works ranging from Chill Out to Techno, Electro and Psy Trance.

After over 2 years in San Francisco working as the Artist & Repertoire associate for INgrooves; a leading digital label and technology company, Treavor has re-located back to his home of Los Angeles. Now running the L.A. arm of INgrooves and being back in his hometown, Treavor has re-discovered his roots while staying full steam ahead with his musical progression and A&R work. With Moontribe events still going strong after 14 years, the Desert Dwellers discography growing by the month and DJ gigs all over North America and beyond, Treavor Moontribe is riding an endless wave of musical bliss that has no end in sight.

Planewalker [LIVE] - Lisbon, Portugal

Psytrance

With his many musical styles and hyper-creative stage performances, this Pleiadeian disco wizard leaves a wake of wide eyes and dazzled audiences through the creative use of a unique, tangible music interface made from small blocks and playing cards based upon the Reactable technology. Planewalker will be taking a brief interlude from his first European tour to play both uptempo and downtempo live sets for Esthetic Evolution 2009. These performances will showcase his new albums Kabbalistic Kazoo and Spirit Circuits. Kabbalistic Kazoo is an adventure in acceleration, beginning slowly with the open and soaring psy-breaks track “First Light” and then proceeding across the abyss between full-on melodic and fast darkpsy, ending with the 150 BPM remix of “In the Sixties”. The music never loses sight of the colorful melodies and sharp textures that are his trademark. Spirit Circuits is another beast altogether, an extremely raw and funky continuous mix of playful but intelligent mid-tempo elements put together for a live show at Alex Grey’s CoSM gallery in Manhattan. This is a must-see artist, with an altered sound that insists you listen. Do.

Adlib - Seattle, WA

Progressive House / Techno

Working feverishly for the last ten years, Seattle-based DJ, turntablist, producer and "techno activist" Devin Kelly has established himself at the core of the West Coast underground. Whether it's through performing coast-wide under the Adlib moniker or throwing Northwest events as People of Earth (POE) productions, he constantly shares his love of dance music with everyone he meets, bridging communities and creating an impressive performance resume' in the process.

Devin learned to DJ in the summer of 1998, teaching himself on a pair of used turntables from his small Idaho hometown's radio station. His long mixes and blending of darker techno, house and progressive quickly earned him bookings in Boise, where he became an instrumental part of the late 90s underground. By 2000, he wasn't even old enough to drink, but had already played hundreds of parties across Idaho and Utah and promoting several of his own annual events.

Devin relocated to Seattle in 2002. His passion for music and reputation as a DJ's DJ have only grown since then, landing him bookings at many of the city's most cutting edge clubs and after hours events. His genre-defying yet intelligent mix of darker house, techno, acid and electro has secured him bookings alongside artists as diverse as Garth and Jeno, Dylan Rhymes, Kilowatts, the Flashbulb and Egyptian Lover, among countless others. He also continues to spread his love of music across the West Coast, and in 2008 alone headlined parties in LA, Portland, Salt Lake and Boise.

Ryan Duley - Bend, OR

Progressive Psytrance / Progressive House

Born and raised on the Oregon coast, Ryan found the rhythmic patterns of the ocean an inspirational tool for musical expression. The progression of instrumental medium for Ryan started with woodwind instruments, guitar and then the turntable. Dance music captured his heart in the late 90’s and by 2000 he was playing clubs and underground events in the Northwest United States.

The first couple of years his genre of choice was Progressive House/Trance, Hard Trance and UK Hard House. In 2001 Ryan began his journey into the world of Psychedelic Trance. The culture within the Psytrance/Goa world captured his heart and helped with his spiritual growth. From 2001 until 2007 he played full-on Psytrance at all events, but at end of 2007 Ryan began to play Progressive Psytrance as well. Other than trance Ryan will be heard playing a blend of Progressive Techno, Progressive House and Electro House. This versatility has helped him with playing timeslots throughout the night or day, and be able to transition at multiple genre events.

Poly - Boise, ID

House

Poly became involved in the Boise dance scene in the early 90’s when a chance encounter put him in contact with Ishy K (aka Mike Balance), who would occasionally Dj at a local coffee shop called the “Dream Walker.” Through Mike, Poly was introduced to Jesse Reynard, who happened to be one of the only people at the time that owned a mixer, a pair of 1200’s, and was nice enough to let someone he barely knew use them both as well as some of his records. Later that same year, he bought a pair of belt-driven turntables from a local thrift shop and began practicing matching beats on his own. Poly became involved with a couple of Californian transplants who brought with them the knowledge of throwing warehouse parties. Forming Kindred Connections, they searched the valley for any local Dj’s.

Poly was given his first opportunity to Dj at Avatar (Boise’s second warehouse party). He immediately fell in love with the mixing, the music, and the people. Since these early beginnings, Poly has had the opportunity to play at some of Boise’s most memorable parties; such as Zoinks!, Fantasy Acres, Boogeyman etc. and has played his progressive style with the likes of Dj Dan, Mike Balance, Christopher Lawrence, Dano, and Brownie, just to name a few.

Taking a few years off in order to pursue a college education, he was never able to shake the Djing addiction. With his education behind him now, he has chosen to re-pursue his true passion. With a new found love for techno, techhouse, and minimal, his well constructed sets are sure to help make any party a memorable experience.

Jeff From Above - Boise, ID

Funky, Jackin House

Jeff from Above’s love of House music began in the early 90’s producing Ambient House tracks influenced by artists such as The Orb, The KLF, System 7, Juno Reactor, Brian Eno, and Kraftwerk. With a move to Oregon in 2001 and an introduction to Underground House by PDX’s Portland Housing Authority, he began passionately studying, collecting, and spinning Funky, Deep, and Jackin House. After his move back to Idaho, Jeff met up with and joined Boise’s 5th Empire crew, DJing at local venues and later throwing parties in downtown Boise. Jeff from Above’s enthusiasm and love for House music stems from its bouncy tempo, soulful vocals, hypnotic melodies, and organic basslines. He continues to promote and spread the message of House music at venues both local and throughout the Northwest.

The sonic wizard that exists on this Earth as novaTRON is a designer of musical experience that defies all categorization. An animal like no other, novaTRON creates completely original beats that are improvised on the fly on the 'Tron Box', a self-constructed constellation of audio hardware... The music born from the marriage of the mind of a mad scientist and the Tron Box is a unique symphony of breakbeats, a reality twisted into a science of experimentation that combines to form an aural experience that can only be lived in the present. novaTRON's organic live sets capture the ephemeral nature of art and existence and strap it down with a thick layer of bass before letting it go on it's way out to the world and into your body. novaTRON is a master of the moment who continues to push the limits of electronica with each and every set.

ESP aka Woody McBride [LIVE] -

Minneapolis, MN

Authentic Old School Minimal

ESP is a champion of fun and a revolutionary new drug-free electronica concert promoter taking a sound by popular demand to a forum it deserves. "nothing against warehouse and outdoor events - and the mystique of them is huge.. But those days are gone - kids couldn't behave themselves and our soundsystems could be heard for ten miles... So we now take our massive to the arena, the club and the sanctioned underground and enjoy the music in a safe legal environment that everyone can enjoy".

That standard has also taken him into the upper realms of "today's" sound as he was recruited to the soundtrack for 2000 presidential candidate Ralph Nader (a drum & bass rocker), a score for Hazelden Drug Treatment Facility prevention video, music for a BMW automobile commercial, several scores for the awarded Minnesota filmmaker Steven Smith, and was hired to anchor the A & R At K-Tel Records - the label that was the "backbone" of the the 70's and 80's disco era.

This combined he's laid a foundation for a new world of Midwest American electronic music that now features dozens of local DJs and world-famous producers. He has also recorded for dozens of labels including Tresor, Bush, Tlc, Labworks, Synewave, Missile, Magnetic North, EX Records, Contact And Drop Bass Network Records. The clubs he has rocked include Ultraschall, Rex Club, Stammheim, Crobar Chicago (Residency), First Avenue Minneapolis (Residency), Quest Minneapolis (Residency), Chaos Minneapolis (Residency) Liquid Room, Boom, Ministry Of Sound, Orbit, Eurobeat 2000, Terriakianarkisaki, Blue Moon, Esso 36 and many many more. ESP is proud to say he has had the pleasure of working with such respected artists as Derrick Carter, DJ T1000, The Reverend Elvis Nixxon, Freddy Fresh, Iffy And Kirk Johnson, Tim Taylor, Jack Trash, Joe Manu, Terry Mullan, Paul Birken, Frankie Bones, Jeff Mills, Man At Arms, Diego Roca, DJ Hell, DJ Dan, Josh Wink, Hoschi, Roland Casper, Chris Liberator, Dave Clarke, Damon Wild and many many more...

Now, after racking up over a million frequent flyer miles and having performed all over Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and North America DJ ESP is currently submerged in producing tracks in the post-rave era of sophisticated hybrid electronic music for the more intimate and home settings as well as the small dark techno club - where he is at his best.

As the electronic age becomes more and more accessible and relevant to us all McMride's "Communiqué Multimedia" aims to remain in step providing amusement, wit, human assistance, a positive example in the music business's volatile realm of self-discovery and to offer engaging inspirational music- vision.

"we are constantly returning to the source, to the energy of our peers, to our principles of clean living... Retracing the steps that connect us to one another... In stereo", he says. "drugs, alcohol and abusive, addictive behavior destroy lives, futures and families... But with the right tools health, fulfillment and the power to stop these patterns is possible... Find the tools and use them in order that you can have fun and fulfillment in your life.”

Menami - Seattle, WA

Downtempo

Growing up outside St. Louis, Detroit, and New York City, Menami was exposed to a variety of different types of music ranging all over the board from country and western, soul and jazz, to psychedelic rock and classical music. This early musical kaleidoscope resulted in a strong love for music and dancing from a young age. She eventually wound up in Seattle and later stumbled upon the Shameless crew late in 2004. Since then she has become a promoter, DJ and production manager for the Shameless collective as well as the managing director of community dance party Broken Disco. She enjoys and collects techno, electro, bass music, tech-house, ghetto tech, dirty club and party music, and dreamy downtempo. Piano and oboe lessons in her childhood as well as a decade and a half in ballet helped to cement a lifelong appreciation of music, composition, and dance. Shame off, game on. Simply Shameless.

Self-converted to the electronic side after a thick dose of jungle and drum & bass at the Ice House, an abandoned warehouse in Arizona in the early 00's, he now walks the path of the underground, combining many styles of experimental electronica into his sets. Representing his home of Seattle through the music collectives of audiblebicycleday, Starborne, and The Oracle Gatherings, Skoi spins spiritually-infused IDM lathered breaks to mid and downtempoish beats that take you on an aural voyage through several musical realms of being before bringing you back again with a smile on your face and a groove in your brain.

Esnce - Portland, OR

Micro House / Experimental Electronica / Everything In Between...

Esnce is the musical outlet of NW native Joshua Aaron Gannon. His musical taste stems from a background of Rock, Hip Hop, Reggae, Metal, Punk, Jazz, New Age, 80's pop, Classical, World, R & B, Folk, Alternative, Experimental….. “insert sub-genre here” Having not been exposed to “Electronic” music for the majority of his life, something strange happened… Josh heard a mix tape & the worlds next DJ was born.

Esnce has built a foundation with the Electronic music scene, Establishing himself with five years on the decks & having the opportunity to play at such venues as: The infamous Leschi Lounge Seattle, Esthetic Evolution 2+4, BRC, Seacompression 5 (as seen w/ Ad-lib) and numerous other venues, outdoor events & after-parties... anywhere good music is desired, holding a Qool residency & having mixes aired on Portland Radio Authority & Proton Radio. He currently can be found working as a TA for the professional music dept. at the community college in Portland, secretly making music no ones heard of. He is a DJ’s DJ, playing clever eclectic blends of tunes that know no genre. He is a pusher & purveyor of Technic-color soundscapes. Taking dance music a bit seriously, Esnce’s sets reflect a deeper form of party music.
