POST EVENT RUMINATION
TO ALL OF OUR INCREDIBLE PARTICIPANTS & VOLUNTEERS:
It has been two weeks since Esthetic Evolution 2010 and all of us in the production crew are gradually adjusting back to the “real” world. We’re finished cleaning up the meadow, wrapped up almost everything with our amazing staff and volunteers and returned to our respective homes. Now, we can finally take a moment to savor the many memories you all helped us create and express our profound gratitude to our community. Thanks to each and every one of you for making Esthetic Evolution the most important event in all our lives and for turning six degrees into one. We’d like to share some highlights with you and discuss opportunities for further evolution before signing out for the summer.
First off, we had 1,000 total attendees and we SOLD OUT the day before the event started. We had record attendance from across the West Coast and participants coming from 14 US States and several countries. Thanks to all of you for believing in our event and preparing early, even those of you who didn’t get tickets in time and had to forego attending. We will continue to cap attendance at 1,000 (or possibly even less) in future years to ensure we remain a fun, safe and humbled event. Please plan accordingly when buying tickets and making other event preparations.
Our event wrap-up statement from last year suggested that we should stop growing attendance and instead grow attendee participation… Well, we’re elated to say that all of you obviously listened AND THEN SOME! Thanks to all the thoughtful art installations for channeling our theme, inspiring our attendees and creating a space for community building. Thanks to theme camps for providing great experiences, great food and great friends for all your neighbors. Thanks to our sound camps from trekking from near and far to provide amazing tunes for the masses. Thanks to all of our attendees for putting so much work into your camps, costumes and community.
The one area where many attendees dropped the ball was on respecting our leave-no-trace policy. There was significantly more trash to pick up this year than last time. This is a major step backwards for our event, particularly given that there was less trash last time than two years ago. Please remember there is no garbage service to Twin Springs and it is economically unfeasible for us to haul out your trash for you. More importantly, we want to maintain our good relationship with the venue and respect the pristine beauty of the area. Last year, we started a recycling camp to encourage respect for the environment and help lighten your loads. We personally haul this recycling down in our own vehicles. All we ask is that you honor us as we honor you by taking your trash home. Failure to comply drives up ticket prices and jeopardizes the event.
On a positive note, the music, lighting and décor at both stages this year were all truly next level. Once again, we had an incredible batch of world-class yet totally down to earth headliners willing to kick it with us all weekend, including one playing his first US gig ever! We had around 30 West Coast performers and amazing locals on both stages, all of whom BROUGHT IT and deserve to be headliners in their own respect. Both stages looked and sounded awesome, thanks to the dedication, creative vision and many hours of hard work from our lighting, fire and sound crews. They are all integral parts of our event and will continue to evolve with us, esthetically. Finally, between the stages and the six sound camps, we had over 100 people playing music in the meadow. This includes several nationally and globally recognized artists paying out of pocket to come kick it with their Idahomies… That’s you guys!
But most importantly, we want to thank the dozens of volunteers and staff that make this event possible. As always, there was tons of work going on behind the scenes at Esthetic Evolution. This began a week before the event with a 40+ person setup crew and is barely ending now. Many other folks put in 12-16 hours a day during the main event. Some of these people make such a huge contribution to the event that they don’t get to partake in the festivities. Without you guys, Esthetic wouldn’t be what it is. We salute all of you for your hard work, particularly given the intensity of some of the situations you dealt with this year.
This brings us to perhaps our most frustrating note coming out of the event, but also another great opportunity for evolution. Due to our increased popularity, this year had a much more varied group of attendees than ever before. As always, the vast majority of our participants were loving, kind people that respected the property and each other’s boundaries. We did, however, have a few isolated incidents of disrespectful behavior, theft and violence towards property and individuals. This made work much more difficult for our volunteers and was extremely disheartening to some of the promoters. We are brainstorming ways to deal with this in the future, including having a larger security presence if necessary and possibly even shrinking the event. In the meantime, we ask all of you to discourage disrespectful behavior in our community and reinforce values that respect each other, the earth, women and diversity. Esthetic Evolution loves you! All that we ask in return is that you also love each other.
OK! We’re all returning to our “normal” lives for a little while here. In the meantime, continue telling us your stories, tagging us in pictures and video and sending your event feedback. Also see Dave Matthew’s ALMOST 800 wonderful pictures from this year and many more Esthetic’s past. You can view Dave’s pictures at www.flickr.com/photos/davematthews/. We will upload all of this to our website and social networking profiles soon. Thanks again to all of you for making this such a wonderful year and another event evolution.
Love, Everyone at pr0cess and P.O.E. |

FINAL TICKET NOTICE
THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO TICKET SALES AT THE GATE!!!
Please remember that all ticket sales this year are PRE-SALE ONLY. At this point, online sales are closed so you must acquire a ticket through one of the resale outlets in Boise in order to get in to the Event. There will be absolutely no ticket sales at the Gate. If anyone arrives to the Festival without a ticket, you will be turned away. This is the best and only way we can guarantee the limit that we are allowed to have at the Event. Please plan ahead.
LESS THAN 50 TICKETS REMAIN
We truly appreciate how many of you have gotten on board with this policy. The Advanced Ticket Sales this year have been very successful and it would appear that the Event will sell out. Tickets can be purchased at the following locations while supplies last:
NO EARLY ARRIVAL
THE GATE WILL OPEN AT NOON ON JUNE 18TH
We are glad to hear that so many people have started their plans early this year and that everyone is so excited for the Event. However, we have a limited contract with the land owners and cannot have anyone showing up before the Event officially begins. This would inevitably cost us additional to rent the property for another day and subsequently, ticket prices will have to be driven even higher. We strive to keep the cost of this Event as low as possible to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to attend. To do this, we must adhere to requirements of the Event location. We appreciate your cooperation.
TRESPASSING
ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY
Esthetic Evolution strives to keep our Festival inexpensive and safe for all paid participants and has a zero tolerance policy towards trespassing. Excess attendees and illegal entrants damage the fragile Twin Springs environment, overcrowd the meadow and will also drive up ticket prices in future years. You will receive a wristband upon approved entry and you must keep your wristband on at all times. We reserve the right to eject and prosecute anyone without one. Failure to comply may lead to permanent expulsion from the Event.
UNDERAGE ATTENDEES
EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A VALID
FORM OF ID FOR ADMITTANCE
Admission will
be available to all patrons 18 years of age or older.
Prospective Attendees who are under 18 years of age must be
accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Everyone is required to
have a valid picture ID as proof of age to meet this criteria. We
reserve the right to deny admission to anyone regardless of whether
or not you possess a ticket to the Event. There are no
exceptions to this requirement. CURRENT RIVER CONDITIONS
HIGH WATER AND SWIFT CURRENT
Please be aware that this has been an extremely high run-off season and the river is currently running very high. We strongly urge everyone to use their best judgment with regard to the river. The current will be very swift and many hazards will be covered by the level of the water. It is likely that many areas along the bank that may have been accessible in years past will be under water this year. Please be careful.
CURRENT ROAD CONDITIONS
POTHOLES AND WASHBOARDS
Another result of the recent weather conditions is that the unpaved portion of the road leading up to the Event has become pitted with numerous potholes. This will make driving even more complicated than in years past. We cannot stress enough the importance of driving slowly and carefully on your way up to the Festival.
Please also be mindful and courteous of other vehicles on the road going in both directions. If you have the better opportunity to pull aside and let another vehicle go past you should do so. This will make the overall driving conditions for both of you much safer.
FINAL PREPARATIONS
We have begun the final preparations for the Event and are extremely pleased to announce that everything is coming together very well. We have had an extraordinary response from volunteers to assist us this year and we are confident that this will be the best Esthetic Evolution ever. Special thanks to everyone for their support. We will see everyone soon!!! |

IMPORTANT LEGAL NOTICE
DRIVE CAREFULLY AND OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT
Please remember to obey all traffic laws and drive safely to and from the event. The speed limit on Spring Shores Road & Arrowrock Road is 25 miles per hour. This is unmarked for the last mile or so of paved road and for most of the dirt road. Both Ada County and Boise County Sheriff regularly patrol this high traffic area and will pull you over for speeding. A significant number of last year’s attendees were pulled over for speeding and cited for various offenses. Also remember that the dirt road is very narrow, has many switchbacks and can be quite dangerous, particularly if you have had a long drive or are coming in at night. If you are coming from out-of-state, we advise you to have someone who is well-rested drive this last stretch of road. If you are local, please remember this is a high traffic time of year and there are many drivers unfamiliar with the terrain.
OVERALL POLICE PRESENCE
This should go without saying, but remember to obey all local, state and federal laws both on and off the Twin Springs property. Boise County Sheriffs will be patrolling the roads around Twin Springs and will cite you for reckless driving, open containers and minor consumption, among other offenses. Esthetic Evolution is an 18+ event, does not sell alcohol and only allows drinking by legal adults with the proper identification and wristband. Attendees will be ejected from the event if staff catches them drinking as a minor, distributing alcohol to minors or breaking other laws.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
The Boise County Sheriff is here for your protection and to ensure attendees make it to and from our event safely. If you are pulled over or questioned by a police officer, please remember to be respectful and courteous at all times. They are professionals and will treat you respectfully if you do so for them. It is your personal responsibility to know your legal rights if pulled over or detained. If you would like to know more about your rights during an arrest or traffic stop, please visit the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) website at:

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ART!!!
We are proud to announce the recipients of this year's Art Grants from Esthetic Evolution. These projects are just now getting underway so all we can provide at this time is a synopsis of what to expect at the Event:
Noxious Weed (a night blooming flower)
Presented by Patrick Ames...A 14' tall flower that will bloom during the night! As the day grows old & darkness unfolds more and more...its lights turn and the flower opens up! Once full bloom is reached, music starts and party lights turn on. This flower will bloom intermittently throughout the night...we can only guess when it will!
Return to Use
A project by Thomas Cox...This metal sculpture tree is designed more of fantasy than reality! Featuring ONLY recycled metal from local scrap yards in a free flowing art construction! Excellent re-use of material for sure!
Broken
Dedicated to her brother Bud who passed away last year while she was attending last years EE, Erynn Graf presents Broken! A light box display of human x-rays. This piece with images of multiple body parts will be on display arranged in a bone pile! Namaste Bud!
Congratulations to all of our 2010 Art Grant recipients!
INDEPENDENT ART CONTRIBUTION
In addition, Esthetic Evolution is very excited to reveal that independent efforts are currently underway to ensure attendance of a very special art installation; Ganesh. This is an "Art Car" originally designed for use at the Burning Man Project in Black Rock City, NV. Ganesh currently resides in Salt Lake City, UT but attends numerous events in the western united states throughout the year. Ganesh will be a stationary installment at Esthetic Evolution providing a venue for one of the approved Sound Camps.
Stay tuned for our next Newsletter in which details about approval of this year's Sound Camps will be announced.
NOW IT'S YOUR TURN
As usual, we encourage ALL attendees to create art and theme camps either representing the Event Theme or celebrating their own artistic vision. The only limitation is that we ask you keep your projects courteous and safe. Although this year's Art Grant funds have been allocated, we encourage you to contact us if you have any questions or special needs to bring your idea to fruition. We are always willing to help. You can contact us at:
A SPECIAL REQUEST
First, he would like to construct a Shri Yantra, then create it with prayer, and make a mandala shrine of bliss & happiness surrounding it! This would include many sacred things including personal items that anyone else wishes to contribute. Kirtane would encourage that attendees come to sit, chill out, and focus within themselves and their Luv! Paper & pens would be available nearby for people to write their aspirations and prayers! These could then be put into a sealed box or left out to be shared with others. Saturday night the Shri Yantra and/or the papers would be burned, weaving them into harmony for the greater good of All Beings! Creating a touch of sacred space at Esthetic.
If you are interested to donate to Kirtane's project, either monetarily, with supplies, or anything else, please email him at kirtane@live.com & give him whatever support you can!
TICKET SALES UPDATE
The volume of online purchases this year in such a short period of time has been quite overwhelming. In fact, we have had a hard time keeping up with order confirmations and ticket mailings. We truly appreciate that everyone has come to realize the importance of getting their tickets in advance. Please remember that admission CANNOT be purchased at the Event this year!
If you have purchased your tickets online but have not yet received a confirmation from Esthetic Evolution or your tickets have not yet been mailed, please bare with us as we get caught up. If you have requested that your tickets be mailed, please watch for our Confirmation E-Mail (which will be sent to the E-Mail Address associated with your PayPal transaction) and verify that your mailing address is correct.
At this point, half of the total tickets available for the Event have been sold. We encourage you and anyone else you know who might want to attend this year to get your tickets as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at:

VOLUNTEERING
Want to really be a part of the experience this year? Be a volunteer! There is no better way to immerse yourself in this year's theme of community and connectivity than to work along side Esthetic Evolution team members and other volunteers. The Festival is always in need of skilled and dedicated volunteers to assist in preparations, set up, gate duties, parking assignments, general logistics, tear down, and cleanup. Obviously there is a lot that goes in to an Event of this magnitude and it is the continued participation of our community members that will guarantee the longevity and overall success of the Festival.
The majority of volunteers will be needed beginning the weekend before the Event, extending through the Event and up to 3 weeks after the Event. Of course we appreciate those who are willing to perform these services without the expectation of compensation. However, the Festival is also willing to work with individuals to provide assistance or reimbursement for admission to the Event dependent on fulfillment of specified commitments.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at:

Phutureprimitive
Phutureprimitive is the moniker of Northwest producer and song writer Rain. If you were to look at early childhood photos, you would find Rain sitting at the piano plinking keys, grinning from ear to ear…..a true sign of things to come. Continuing his early fascination with music, Rain was later drawn to electronic music, inspired by its ability to combine the best of organically played instruments and the synthetic pleasures of sounds more exotic to the human ear. After beginning a DJ career in the 90s, Rain began incorporating the music he was making in his home studio into his DJ sets.

HEY EVERYBODY!!!
The countdown has begun and we are on our way to a new Evolution. There are 5 months left until Esthetic Evolution 2010. We have started our preparations and hope you have too! In order to insure the best possible experience for every attendee of the Event, we want to make sure we are correlating with you and your crew to provide every accommodation and resource possible to bring your vision to the Esthetic Evolution stage.
THEME & SOUND CAMPS
Art Projects and Theme Camps represent the core basis of self-expression at Esthetic Evolution and we encourage every attendee to immerse themselves in some form of project which will represent their individuality to its fullest. If you have a specific Theme Camp or Art Project in mind, we really want to make sure you keep us in the loop to assure that you are provided with a location and the resources to bring your project to fruition.
Especially
if you are thinking about having your
own sound at your camp, please be aware that we have
found it necessary to create certain guidelines and restrictions pertaining to Sound
Camps. We recognize that self expression comes in many forms and we do not wish to impose
restrictions that would hamper the creativity of any attendee.
At the same time, we must also be mindful of all participants and
ensure that the presence of multiple Sound Camps does not encroach
on their experience as well. Therefore, we have set up an application process to help coordinate and organize the presence of Sound Camps at Esthetic Evolution in 2010. Complete details will be made available in the next Newsletter and on our website in February. In the mean time, if you wish to make an inquiry or have specific questions about resources and specifications for Theme & Sound Camps, please contact us at the following E-Mail address:
ThemeCamp@EstheticEvolution.com
ART GRANTS
Have an idea for an amazing
art project but just don't think you're going to have the funds to
get it off the ground? Well maybe we can help. We are very
excited to announce that the Event's success in previous years
enables us to pass some of this good fortune back to you! We have a very limited amount of funds that we can invest in some
serious, thoughtful, and committed artists to help bring some unique
and provoking works to fruition. As you can imagine, it is
important that we have a clear understanding of your project and
intentions to be sure you are willing and able to carry out and
share your ideas with the Festival. For this reason, we have drafted up some guidelines and created a grant application process to request funds from Esthetic Evolution. This process will begin next month with the release of the website and a complete announcement will be made in the February Newsletter. In the mean time, if you wish to make an inquiry or have specific questions about resources and specifications for art projects please contact us at the following E-Mail address:
MORE INFORMATION
Please remember that attendance will be limited and tickets will only be sold in advance; there will be no tickets sold at the gate this year. We strongly encourage you to plan ahead and get your tickets as soon as you can. Tickets will go on sale in March. Additional details regarding Ticket Sales and availability will be included in future Newsletters and on the website as soon as it is set up. Help us to propagate this information to our fellow community members so no one is left out.

Hello Esthetic Evolution Family, Friends and Fans!
The Winter Solstice is upon us! It is the shortest, darkest day of the year and a time of hibernation, introspection and finding warmth. It’s also exactly six months from the Summer Solstice, the longest, brightest day of the year and a time of wakefulness, exuberance and letting go. This makes it the best time to announce the return of the Northwest underground’s favorite beginning of summer ritual, Esthetic Evolution!
Esthetic Evolution
2010
This year’s theme, “Six Degrees,” focuses on the web of connections between our event, our attendees and the world around us. Network theorists describe human society as a “small world”, in which most individuals could reach any other person on the planet through an average of six links. You may only have a certain number of friends, but your friends have friends, too, and within six degrees you have a social network spanning the world. In short, we are all connected. These findings have been instrumental to social science, psychology, literature, music and art. We hope 6° inspires our attendees to bond with one-another and build relationships, art and camps representing this connectedness.
Limit of 1,000
Attendees!
As many of you know, Esthetic has gotten bigger and better every year, to the point where it was almost too large for the Twin Springs Resort. This past year, we decided to cap attendance at 1,000 participants (including staff) and only sell tickets by presale. This helped ensure Esthetic remains a fun, safe and sustainable event. We will be repeating the cap again this year and will definitely sell out before the event. There will be no tickets available at the gate. Please buy them early! Tickets will be available online and at select distributors in March. Stay tuned for more information.
Art Projects and Theme Camps
As usual, we encourage ALL attendees to create art and theme camps either representing the theme or celebrating their own artistic vision. Last year, we allowed for several sound camps and gave out art grants totaling $1,000. Both were HUGE successes! We will be allowing a limited number of sound camps and giving out another $1,000 in art grants this year, hopefully to a variety of theme related and non-theme related projects. The application process for sound camps and grants will begin in February. Please see next month’s newsletter for more information. Remember, ALL attendees are encouraged to contribute their vision, whether or not they get funding. The only limitation is that we ask you keep your projects courteous and safe.
If you have any concerns about safety or other event regulations, please contact us at Admin@EstheticEvolution.com.
